SPHERIC PINK : ARKEN

"Spheric Pink" is an art creation by the Danish artist, Eva Steen Christensen.
For my second exam at KEA, I was tasked with transforming a artwork into a piece of jewelry fit for sale in the museum's store.
Throughout this project, I will take you on a journey through my creative process, demonstrating how I approached the task of translating something monumental into an everyday wearable accessory.

This project was a solo exam project; therefore, all tasks were carried out exclusively by me.

The museum & artpiece

When I laid eyes on Spheric Pink, I knew this was going to be my artwork.

I started with pictures of the general shape of the piece, but quickly found myself drawn to the soft pink fabric folded around the skeleton of the sculpture.

Materials : Phone camera

Sketches 001

Before getting closer to my final jewellery piece, I had to choose my design drivers. I went with what I initially thought of when observing Spheric Pink:

Asymmetric
Organic shapes
Soft

Once my design drivers were defined, I began working on my sketches, both in 2D and 3D. I wanted to get the feeling of the piece into my hands.

Materials : paper, pencils, fine liners, clay.

Sketches 002

After sketching on paper and in clay, I began working on my final jewellery pieces. I wanted to create something suitable for casting, so
I designed my jewellery in Rhino.

I decided to make two ear studs and two pendants.

Materials : Rhino, Keyshot

Final Jewellery

The final pieces of jewellery are cast in 925 sterling silver, with one version gold-plated.

For my exam, I produced only two pairs of earrings.

The SMALL EARSTUD 001 & 002 were made in 925 sterling silver and gold-plated with 24k gold.

Materials : 925 sterling silver, 24k goldplating

POS material

For the POS material, I worked on posters both for display and as a gift for visitors purchasing jewellery from this collection.

I found it very important to have the artist's name visible in multiple places, as the jewellery is strongly connected to the art piece - in shape, color, and the overall POS material.
